ezetobebad Posted June 17, 2006 Report Posted June 17, 2006 Hi, As you regular posters have noted, I am new here. I am regular with problems, I have them all the time with my motorbike. Of late I have had them with the Galaxy engine (on my Metrocab) :( . What amazes me is the amount of problems that people are experiencing with electrical/electronic faults :D . Cars have become so complex nowdays, nothing is no longer easy for a simple 'carb & points' man like me. Is all this electronic wizardry really improving our lives or does it just incur extra cost at the hands of 'so called specialists'? just a thought eze Quote
Ogben Schmutzel Posted June 17, 2006 Report Posted June 17, 2006 Hi ezetobebad, You may have a point. I think it is the Citroen C4 advert that says 'alive with technology'. Yeh right, give it a couple of years ....... Another thought though is that you can't use these forums as a guide because most folk only search them out when they have a problem. Not many first time posters come to say what a great car it is!! Regards.Oggy. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted June 17, 2006 Report Posted June 17, 2006 The problem with all these electronics is that they seem to be a requirement to meet legislation. All good when everything is working OK, but unlike simple mechanical systems, they can go wrong in so many ways, and fault finding can be a real pain in the butt. Quote

Good point, I must admit to being one of those :( What I fear though is the scenario of going to FMD (ford main dealer) & paying what Quote

Not many first time posters come to say what a great car it is there's always one of us :( Most of the electronics used are in control systems - it is possible to make many of them mechanical but given the level of sophistication the mechanical equivalents would be complicated and probably as difficult to troubleshoot and more to the point prohibitivly expensive. :D Of course regressing to less subtle control would enable much more transparent, simpler systems at what cost, mpg emmisions, safety I would think.
